Bigger, newer, and more powerful: General Motors is ramping up investment in pickup truck production. Here’s what we know so far about the company’s plans.
General Motors plans to invest millions of dollars into the production of new pickup trucks. The company recently announced an additional investment of tens of millions of dollars into its plant in Oshawa, where the Chevrolet Silverado is assembled.
A total of $46 million will go toward upgrading production, primarily modernizing the stamping lines used to manufacture body components.
Through this new round of funding, GM also intends to optimize its parts and components manufacturing operations at the facility. The plant is also responsible for assembling V8 engines.
Given the newly announced investment — bringing total funding for pickup production to $250 million — it’s likely that the Chevrolet Silverado (along with the GMC Sierra) could soon receive either a new generation or a significant refresh.
Last month, patent images surfaced online showing part of the next-generation Silverado’s design. The upcoming model is also expected to feature a new lineup of engines, primarily powerful yet more fuel-efficient gasoline V8s.
