Chinese automaker BYD is expanding into an entirely new market segment. The brand is entering the RV category and has already unveiled its first model, which now comes with an official price.

The two-story Chengli camper, built on a BYD chassis, features a unique living space that can be expanded when needed.

As is typical of many modern Chinese vehicles, the motorhome is packed with electronics and ambient lighting. It also includes a retractable covered rooftop terrace and a lift-up dining area positioned centrally inside the cabin.

While American buyers may not be easily impressed, the addition of a true second level and rooftop terrace certainly stands out.

The main level provides living space for up to six people — matching the six seatbelts installed in the vehicle itself. Sleeping arrangements can be configured as either shared or separate spaces, with beds converted from multifunctional furniture.

A 400-amp-hour lithium-ion battery (24-volt system) comes standard, along with an 800-watt solar array and a 5,000-watt inverter. This setup allows the base motorhome to power a wide range of electrical appliances. A flat-screen TV and a 220-volt air-conditioning system are already included as standard equipment.

Optional upgrades include an induction cooktop, a compact oven, a 4.7-cubic-foot refrigerator (132 liters), and even a washing machine rated for loads up to 6.6 pounds.

Despite measuring under 20 feet in length, the camper manages to include a full bathroom with a built-in shower. Fresh water is supplied from a 79-gallon tank, while gray water drains into a 21-gallon holding tank. The cassette toilet features a separate 10.5-gallon black water tank.

The RV is powered by a plug-in hybrid system based on the BYD T5 DM platform. It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric system, producing a combined 203 horsepower. The transmission is automatic.

According to official figures, the price of this double-decker motorhome in China is approximately $57,900.
