Ram recalls over 6,600 heavy-duty trucks due to potential stability control system malfunction concerns
The 2026 Ram 2500 is being recalled due to a steering column module that could trigger a sudden loss of electronic stability control (ESC). A total of 6,605 trucks are affected, all built between September 13 and November 15, 2025, at the Saltillo assembly plant in Mexico, where Ram also produces the 3500 and other heavy-duty models.
The modules in question were supplied by Kostal of America and are listed under three separate part numbers. According to recall documents, the issue stems from a possible internal fault within the component. To fix the problem, dealers will replace the faulty modules with correctly manufactured ones at no cost to owners.
Stellantis North America began investigating the issue in January 2026. By last month, engineers determined that these trucks might not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 126 requirements. Beyond regulatory concerns, a failure in the ESC system on a heavy-duty pickup like this could raise the risk of a crash.
Dealers are expected to be notified electronically by April 23, 2026. Owners should start receiving notifications between May 7 and May 8, 2026. The recall notice doesn’t specify which trims or configurations are impacted.
The Ram 2500 lineup currently starts at $46,855 for the base Tradesman model, which comes with rear-wheel drive, a Regular Cab, an 8-foot bed, and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8. In total, there are nine trims available, including Big Horn, Black Express, Warlock, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited, and Limited Longhorn.
Higher trims bring more premium features, while buyers can also take advantage of offers like 0% APR financing for 36 months or a $1,000 bonus cash incentive.
When equipped with the optional Cummins turbo diesel inline-six, the Ram 2500 can tow up to 20,000 pounds. That engine delivers 430 horsepower and up to 1,075 lb-ft of torque under optimal conditions, giving it strong performance in its class.
The truck also stands out with one of the largest infotainment displays in its segment—a 14.5-inch touchscreen. There’s also a special Lunar edition, based on the Rebel and Power Wagon trims, featuring Ceramic Gray paint, unique decals, black wheels, and Copperhead Orange stitching inside, along with a few exclusive details.
In the first quarter of 2026, Stellantis North America sold 98,425 Ram trucks in the U.S., including 38,597 heavy-duty models. That marks a 21% increase year over year for heavy-duty trucks, while light-duty models saw a 27% gain compared to the same period in 2025, showing stron demand despite issues like this recal.
