Honda Thailand has rolled out an unconventional marketing campaign for the refreshed Honda City sedan and City Hatchback. Instead of showcasing the cars through a traditional commercial, the automaker created a high-energy anime-inspired video featuring an erupting volcano, a towering lava monster, and the compact car as the unlikely hero.

First introduced in 1981, the Honda City has become one of the Japanese brand's most successful nameplates across Asia. Today, the model is sold in markets including Thailand, India, and Malaysia, and is available as both a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback.

The new campaign promotes the 2027 Honda City and 2027 Honda City Hatchback. It centers around the music video "City Quake," released on Honda Thailand's official YouTube channel and featuring popular Thai singer and rapper Milli.

In the video, the Honda City bursts out of the crater of an active volcano before charging down winding mountain roads while dodging rivers of lava, massive falling rocks, and other hazards. Throughout the action, viewers get a look at both the sedan and hatchback versions of the compact model.

One of the commercial's standout moments comes when a giant lava monster slams its fist into the ground, triggering a rockslide directly in the car's path. The driver then relies on Honda's Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance technologies to safely navigate through the danger.

Despite its over-the-top fantasy setting, the commercial doesn't forget the driving action. The video includes dramatic drifting scenes, fast-paced chase sequences, and stylized visuals inspired by popular Japanese anime.

Honda says the campaign is meant to symbolize overcoming obstacles and pushing forward even in the toughest conditions. The company positions the Honda City as a dependable companion that helps drivers confidently pursue new goals, no matter how chaotic the road ahead may be.

Looking ahead, the next major milestone for the City will be its planned next-generation redesign, which is expected to debut in 2028. Honda has not yet revealed what changes are in store for the next evolution of its affordable compact model.
