A software issue affecting an aftermarket trailer module has prompted Ford to recall 158 F-150 pickups nationwide.

Ford is recalling a limited number of 2021–2026 F-150 pickups because of a software issue involving certain dealer-installed Integrated Trailer Module accessory kits.

The recall applies to 158 trucks equipped with Integrated Trailer Module kits sold separately through Ford's parts network rather than installed during vehicle production.

According to Ford, the affected module can lose communication with the truck, causing trailer lighting functions to stop working. On both High and Low Series modules, trailer brake lights and turn signals may become inoperative. Trucks equipped with the High Series module can also lose trailer brake functionality.

Because the issue can disable required trailer lighting, the affected vehicles no longer comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, which governs vehicle lighting and signaling equipment.

A trailer with inoperative brake lights, turn signals, or braking capability is more difficult for surrounding drivers to see and predict, while the driver towing the trailer may experience reduced control. Together, those conditions increase the risk of a crash.

Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect.

The recall covers Integrated Trailer Module accessory kits with part numbers ML3Z-19H322-AA, AB, BA, BB, CA, and CB.

To correct the issue, Ford dealers will update the trailer module software free of charge.

Owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing on August 3, 2026. The recall is identified by Ford as 26C35.

Owners with questions can contact Ford Customer Service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 26C35. Additional information is also available through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236 or on the agency's website.
