Nissan has turned the X-Trail into a compact camper with off-road capability.
Camper-style vehicles have become so popular that major automakers could not ignore the trend. For example, Nissan recently expanded its Japanese X-Trail lineup with the new Rock Creek MultiBed version, designed for trips out of town and outdoor recreation. The crossover gets a convertible rear area that can be turned into a full-size sleeping space for two people.
The new special version is based on the X-Trail Rock Creek, which stands out with more rugged styling at the front and rear of the vehicle. The crossover gets a new grille, revised bumpers, darkened front and side trim, exterior mirror housings, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Lava-red accents on the body provide an additional visual touch.
The main difference with the MultiBed version is the special Multibed kit developed by NMC, a division focused on performance and tuning projects. It allows the rear of the cabin to be converted into a spacious double bed. If necessary, the setup can be disassembled to free up space for luggage or other cargo.
The seats and bed components are made from waterproof, breathable materials. The setup is designed for different scenarios: during the day, the rear of the cabin remains a practical cargo area, while at a campsite, the vehicle can quickly be converted into a place to sleep.
The X-Trail Rock Creek MultiBed's powertrain remains standard. The crossover is equipped with a 1.5-liter e-Power hybrid system producing 213 hp. It is paired with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive, while an Off-Road mode is provided for driving on challenging surfaces.
The off-road equipment is complemented by a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
Meanwhile, Nissan continues preparing for the official launch of the new Nissan X-Trail. The vehicle was recently spotted without camouflage in the U.S., where it will be sold under the Rogue name.
These crossovers will go on sale by the end of 2026. Whether they will eventually get an off-road Rock Creek version like the current model remains unknown. It is also unclear whether the Multibed upgrade kit, which can turn this family SUV into a minimalist camper for overnight trips on long road journeys, will be available.
