Recently, fresh photos of the first super sedan from AMG were published online.
The Mercedes-AMG company is preparing to release its first-ever fully electric version of its flagship sedan — the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. Recently, the car was captured by random witnesses during road tests.
This camouflaged car clearly showcases the silhouette of the iconic AMG GT 4-Door. Despite the masking, some features of the model can already be discerned thanks to the exposed elements and forms under the cover.
It seems AMG is not just copying the previous GT 4-Door formula. Instead, engineers have implemented a number of updates that elevate this high-performance electric vehicle to the level of the brand's best executive models with the three-pointed star.
Firstly, the car now has production headlights and taillights styled like the SL — a clear step forward compared to its hybrid predecessor. Notably, there's also the addition of retractable door handles and frameless windows that lend the car extra style.
Mercedes is not just inserting batteries into an old chassis. The AMG division has created this electric car from the ground up as its first fully electric high-performance vehicle. While the EQS AMG elicited mixed feelings among enthusiasts, this low-slung newcomer appears set to change the narrative.
In addition, the vehicle features an active rear spoiler that also functions as an air brake. However, the prototype is still equipped with different wheel rims and fitted with summer Michelin tires.
What’s under the hood? The powertrain remains something of a mystery — partly. AMG uses radial-flow electric motors developed by YASA. Each weighs just 24 kg but can produce a whopping 473 hp and 800 Nm of torque. Multiply that by two (or even three or four if AMG decides to take the plunge), and you get power exceeding 1000 hp.
Charging support of over 800 volts is expected, with a range above 507 km (315 miles) as in the EQS, along with performance capable of surpassing the current GT 63 S E Performance, which already delivers 831 hp and accelerates to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2.8 seconds.
