BMW has officially confirmed that the new electric crossover iX3 will have a front trunk — commonly referred to as a «frunk». This will be the first BMW with such a compartment since the i3 was released in 2013. Though the space under the hood will be small, it's sufficient for storing a charging cable or a shopping bag.

Until now, none of the brand's larger electric vehicles offered a front trunk. The reasons might have varied — from engineering constraints to cost-saving. However, the German manufacturer has now decided to add practicality to the new BMW iX3, 2026 model year.

Complete technical details will be revealed in September at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, but it is already clear: the new generation iX3 will launch a new brand philosophy — convenience without compromise.

The Neue Klasse platform, on which the iX3 is built, may serve as a foundation for other models with a similar layout.
