Owners of electric vehicles will be able to choose between 14 different AI 'characters' — from a children's storyteller to 'Sexy Grok'.
Tesla is preparing to launch a new artificial intelligence system in its electric cars — Grok, developed by xAI, which is also headed by Elon Musk. This information emerged after analyzing the latest firmware updates. According to the leak, users will be offered 14 unique AI 'personalities', such as the 'Children's Storyteller', 'Doctor', 'Therapist', 'Meditation', 'Conspirator', 'Debater', and even 'Sexy Grok'.
Each character will have its own manner of communication, vocabulary, and style of dialogue. The idea seems to be to turn the interaction with the car into something more than just executing voice commands. It is still unclear whether Grok will be available in all models or only those equipped with the MCU3 multimedia system with AMD Ryzen chips. There is also discussion about the possibility of a paid subscription — similar to how Tesla offers enhanced autopilot features.
No official announcements from Tesla yet, but Elon Musk has previously mentioned plans to integrate Grok into various products, including cars. For reference: Grok is not just a chatbot. It is based on the xAI language model, and is trained, among other things, on X (formerly Twitter), which gives it a distinctive style of communication — ironic, sometimes provocative.
Interestingly, Tesla is not the first to go down this road. Mercedes-Benz has long had an advanced voice assistant, MBUX, and Google plans to introduce Gemini AI into the automotive systems of some partner brands. However, Musk, as usual, bets not on 'just convenient', but on the 'wow' factor — so the onboard intelligence can argue, encourage, philosophize, and even flirt.
Whether this will be in demand on actual trips is an open question. On one hand, such AI could add a touch of humanity to the tech-centric interior of a Tesla. On the other hand, not everyone would want their car to engage in heated discussions about the meaning of life or reply with the voice of 'Sexy Grok' after a hard day's work.
In any case, it certainly won't be boring. What will you choose — the reserved 'Therapist' or the sarcastic 'Debater'?
