The summer heat seems to urge you to quickly wash the dusty car. But haste is a poor advisor. If you do not consider the peculiarities of washing in hot weather, you can seriously damage the car’s paint. We explain how to properly wash your car under the scorching sun.

Why washing in the summer is more dangerous than it seems

When the metal is hot from the sun, cleaning products evaporate too quickly. As a result, difficult-to-remove marks remain on the body, and the paint itself may become dull or even damaged.

"On hot metal, cleaning compounds dry faster, the traces of which are then difficult to remove. European auto chemicals are less adapted to heat, unlike American ones — they dry longer and work better in such conditions".

5 rules of washing in the heat that will save the car body

To keep the car not only clean but also well-maintained, follow these simple yet important recommendations:

  1. Avoid direct sunlight. If possible, wash the car in the shade or during the morning/evening hours.
  2. Choose auto chemicals with a neutral pH. They may be slightly less aggressive against dirt but are also less harmful to the paint when drying.
  3. Work piece by piece. Wash one part at a time: fender, door, next section. This way, the product won’t dry out.
  4. Rinse abundantly with water. Pay special attention to areas where foam may remain.
  5. Dry with microfiber. It’s better to use special “towels” — they are convenient for collecting water from large surfaces and preventing the appearance of calcium marks from dried droplets.

What is important to remember

Summer car washing requires care and patience to avoid damaging the paintwork under the scorching sun. The main thing is to avoid direct sunlight, work piece by piece, and thoroughly rinse cleaning agents. Using quality auto chemicals and microfiber will help maintain shine and avoid streaks. Remember, rushing when washing in the summer often causes more harm than good.
