The global automotive leader Toyota has announced plans to introduce 10 new electric models by 2027. This strategic decision aims to strengthen the company's positions in key regions, including the USA, Europe, Japan, and China, where competition with players like BYD becomes increasingly fierce.

Model Range and Production Expansion

In addition to the existing lineup of five electric cars, Toyota is preparing ten new models aimed at strengthening its presence in the global market. Production capacities will be increased not only in Japan and China but also in the USA, Thailand, and Argentina.

Despite the 34% growth in electric vehicle sales last year (around 140,000 units), Toyota is currently lagging behind Chinese competitors. For instance, BYD sold 166,000 electric cars in March 2025 alone, and 416,388 in the first quarter of this year, which is 39% more than the previous year.

New Models and Markets

In the USA, Toyota offers the bZ4X and Lexus RZ electric crossovers, and starting in 2026, production of the first three-row electric SUV will begin at the Kentucky and Indiana plants. Battery shipments from a new plant outside Japan will start this month.

In Europe, three new electric models will soon appear: bZ4X, C-HR+, and Urban Cruiser. Production of the C-HR+ in Japan will start in September 2025, and in August 2027, a new generation of the Lexus EV will be released. Additionally, an electric crossover developed jointly with Subaru will be supplied to North America, Europe, and other regions.

This step demonstrates Toyota’s determination to catch up with market leaders and strengthen its positions in the era of electric vehicles.
