New world record: electric car traveled 1200 km without charging

A mass-produced electric car has set a new world record, significantly surpassing the previous record-holder. Its route crossed the Alps and autobahns, and the result has already been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records.

Lucid Air Grand Touring 2025 set a new benchmark in the world of electric vehicles, covering an impressive distance of 1205 kilometers on a single charge. This route extended from the Swiss ski resort of St. Moritz to Munich in Germany. The run was witnessed by official representatives of the Guinness Book of Records, making the result indisputable in terms of documentary evidence. Thus, this new achievement significantly outperformed the previous range record for mass-produced electric vehicles — 1045 kilometers, established in June 2025, improving it by 160 kilometers.

Lucid particularly noted that the test was not conducted in ideal laboratory conditions: the route included challenging mountain sections, winding serpentine roads, high-speed sections of German autobahns, and less predictable secondary roads. This adds weight to the record, as real-world landscapes and road conditions significantly affect energy consumption.

Technically, the Lucid Air Grand Touring is equipped with an in-house developed powertrain providing 831 horsepower. The model's top speed reaches 270 kilometers per hour. According to certified data from the European WLTP test cycle, the model's range varies from 817 to 960 kilometers depending on configuration and operating conditions. The average claimed energy consumption is 16 kWh per 100 kilometers, which is currently one of the lowest in the high-performance electric car class. Additionally, its advanced fast-charging system should be noted: the electric car can replenish a 400-kilometer range in just 16 minutes, which remains a significant competitive advantage in the industry by modern standards.

For Umit Sabanci, a London-based entrepreneur, this is already the second record related to the Lucid Air. In 2024, he traveled through nine European countries without a single recharge, setting a record for the number of countries traversed on a single charge by a mass-produced electric vehicle. He once again became the driver in this project, confirming that the Lucid Air is capable of real feats not just in theory, but also on actual roads. Notably, in both cases the car was used in standard factory configuration — without any technical modifications.
