Chinese automaker BYD has introduced an innovative 1-MW charging system for electric vehicles, enabling them to recharge as quickly as refueling a gasoline car. The first models equipped with this technology will soon be available in the Ocean lineup.

The new platform, named **BYD Super e-Platform**, has been described as a “revolutionary technology that completely resolves the biggest issue in electric vehicle usage.” The batteries support a charging voltage of up to 1000V and a charging current of up to 1000A, delivering a charging power of up to 1000 kW (1 MW)—the highest in the world, according to the company. This technology allows a 400-km range recharge in just 5 minutes, with peak charging speeds enabling a 2-km range increase per second.

In addition to cutting-edge power technology, BYD has also announced the development of its own **1-MW charging network** with over 4,000 chargers. These stations are specifically designed to support the new architecture and will offer more than twice the charging speed of the Tesla Supercharger V4, which provides up to 500 kW. For comparison, Tesla’s charging stations can replenish a 275-km range in 15 minutes.

The new **1000V platform** not only accelerates charging but also paves the way for **more powerful and compact electric motors**. BYD has introduced the most powerful mass-produced motor to date, delivering **778 horsepower (580 kW)** with a rotational speed of **30,511 rpm**. Additionally, the company has developed **silicon carbide-based power semiconductors** for the new powertrain, capable of handling voltages up to **1500V**.

The high power output allows BYD electric vehicles to achieve impressive performance. For example, the heavy **Tang L SUV** accelerates from **0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in under four seconds**, while the **Han L sedan** reaches the same speed in just **2.7 seconds**—faster than the Tesla Model 3 Performance.

Alongside impressive performance and ultra-fast charging, BYD has also prioritized **safety** in its latest vehicles. The **battery structure has been reinforced**, making it capable of withstanding severe collisions without deformation, thus improving overall vehicle safety.

The first models featuring the new **charging architecture** will be the **Tang L SUV** and **Han L sedan** from the Ocean series, set to debut this month. The **Han L EV** starts at **270,000 yuan ($37,330)**, while the **Tang L EV** is priced from **280,000 yuan ($38,710)**.
