Audi E5 Sportback: a new chapter in the brand's electric vehicle history for the Chinese market
This week in China, the new electric car — Audi E5 Sportback was presented. This model is the result of collaboration between Volkswagen and Chinese auto giant SAIC, marking the start of sales for cars specifically designed for the local market's needs. Interestingly, within this project, the Audi brand received an unusual design — a logo in the form of four letters AUDI, without the traditional rings.
The new model's appearance highlights the influence of modern Chinese design school: a sleek silhouette improves aerodynamics, and the light graphics in front and rear sets a new corporate style. The front bumper is equipped with a decorative panel with thousands of LEDs that create light animations — a visual effect particularly popular with the local audience.
In technical terms, the E5 Sportback will not disappoint either. The electric vehicle will be offered in four power options — from 220 to 579 kW (from 299 to 787 hp). The most powerful version with all-wheel drive can accelerate to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. The driving range is up to 770 km, and the fast charging adds 370 km in just 10 minutes thanks to an 800-volt system.
The interior boasts a high-tech design focused on comfort: soft lighting, natural materials, hidden vents, and even an air fragrance function. The panoramic roof is automatically dimmed thanks to electrochromic glass. The centerpiece is a 27-inch 4K display that supports gesture and voice control. An integrated Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor handles multimedia and interface personalization.
Additionally, the equipment includes a touchscreen panel for quick access to frequently used functions, a facial recognition system, and adaptive driving technologies, including 29 sensors, lidar, and cameras. They assist the driver both in urban environments and on the highway, including extended parking features.
Audi is focusing on the premium segment of the Chinese market. Two more models under the AUDI brand are expected in 2026 and 2027. Time will tell how highly buyers will appreciate the new vision of the German brand in its Chinese execution.
