British sports car manufacturer McLaren is preparing its first SUV, internally codenamed P47. The vehicle will pair a V8 engine with a hybrid system and feature aerodynamic styling inspired by McLaren’s racing heritage.

According to UK dealers who have seen the SUV, the P47 boasts a “sculpted and muscular” design, an aggressive stance, and large 24-inch wheels. Its side profile evokes the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, but with even bolder proportions.

McLaren will mount the hybrid V8 low and to the rear to preserve handling and agility. The roof features an aerodynamic “spine” reminiscent of a race car fin, while the rear includes a large diffuser and spoiler, emphasizing its sporty character.

Collaboration with EV startup Forseven is helping develop the hybrid system, while Gordon Murray Automotive provides engineering consultancy.

The P47 represents a major strategic move for McLaren. Company leadership stresses that, even in this new SUV format, the vehicle will remain lightweight and dynamic, true to the brand’s sports car DNA.

Upcoming McLaren Plans:

“McLaren P47 will compete with models like the Aston Martin DBX, Lamborghini Urus, and Ferrari Purosangue,” dealers report.
