Stellantis adds a third shift at its Canadian assembly plant.
Stellantis has announced it will add a third shift at the Windsor Assembly Plant in Ontario, a move driven by expectations of higher demand for the next-generation Dodge Charger as well as the Chrysler Pacifica and the more affordable Voyager minivans. More than 1,000 workers are already being assigned to the new shift, including about 240 employees transferred from the Brampton facility. By early 2026, the total number of new jobs created in Windsor is expected to reach 1,500.
The situation in Brampton remains tense. Stellantis had previously planned to build the next-generation Jeep Compass there, but after multiple layoffs and a production shutdown, the company decided to move Compass assembly to Illinois instead. That decision sparked a dispute with Canadian authorities and raised questions around hundreds of millions of dollars in government subsidies. With the plant’s future still unclear, Brampton workers are currently receiving 70 percent of their wages while keeping their benefits.
Against that backdrop, Windsor is emerging as a key hub for Stellantis. Production of six-cylinder Dodge Charger R/T models and four-door internal-combustion versions is scheduled to begin there in the first quarter of 2026. The plant may also be preparing to assemble a new three-row Dodge crossover and a two-row Chrysler model.
It’s worth noting that the Charger itself, built on the STLA Large platform, has so far fallen short of sales expectations. The all-electric version struggled to gain traction, while the gasoline-powered model with an inline-six has been criticized as being pricey for its segment.
