There’s a lot that’s unusual about the Eldorado Starfire motorhome, starting with its name and its distinctive shape.

There’s plenty that feels odd about the Eldorado Starfire motorhome, from its name to its unconventional proportions. Still, one thing is beyond debate: this is a seriously cool RV, and its interior puts many modern living spaces to shame.

The Eldorado Starfire was built for a short time, from 1987 to 1989, by the American company EMC (Eldorado Motor Corporation).

The platform donor was a Ford F-350 pickup, though you’d never guess that by looking at it. From the outside, the Starfire barely resembles a truck at all. Its exterior design is highly unconventional, more like a bus with an unusually long, sharp nose.

The living body is made from fiberglass and features plenty of chrome accents on the outside — including a rectangular grille — with designers clearly drawing inspiration from the bold styling of the Lincoln Continental Mark VII.

The interior of this American motorhome is just as intriguing. The cab, for example, features a massive multi-section center console.

At the top of the console sits an audio system with both cassette and CD players, while the lower section houses a diagnostic panel and controls for the air suspension. There’s also a small screen displaying the rearview camera feed — a surprisingly advanced feature for its time.

Moving into the living area, the central section is arranged as a lounge with a sofa that converts into a bed. It also includes a fold-out table and two individual chairs.

The Starfire comes with a fully equipped kitchen featuring a table, sink, and a four-burner gas stove. Additional amenities include a microwave, an ice maker, and a refrigerator.

Just behind the kitchen is a second lounge area, this one with two sofa beds. At the very rear of the motorhome, there’s a full bathroom complete with a shower, sink, and toilet.

Other notable features include air conditioning and an Onan generator. From the factory, the Starfire also came equipped with a television.

The Eldorado Starfire was offered in two lengths — approximately 27 feet and 32 feet. The photos shown here depict the longer 1987 model measuring about 32 feet.

Power comes from a 7.5-liter Ford V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, producing around 230 horsepower.

Interestingly, fewer than 300 examples of the Eldorado Starfire were ever built, making it a relatively rare RV today.

That’s the story.
