Volvo has shared new details about its upcoming mid-size electric crossover, the EX60. The model will become the first in the brand’s lineup to feature Google’s built-in Gemini artificial intelligence. According to Volvo, the goal is to make interaction with the vehicle feel more natural—especially through conversational voice commands and progressively deeper integration with the car’s electronics.
The company says that, over time, Gemini will be able to tap into the EX60’s cameras to effectively “see the same things the driver sees” and respond to questions about the surrounding environment. Volvo plans to expand these capabilities through over-the-air software updates.
Safety remains a key focus. Volvo emphasizes that the voice assistant allows drivers to control core vehicle functions hands-free, reducing the need to interact with the center screen and helping keep attention on the road. In theory, this should limit how often drivers have to glance at the display while driving.
The EX60 has not yet been officially unveiled. Volvo has only confirmed that the model is scheduled to debut on January 21, with more details expected closer to launch.
At the heart of the EX60 is Volvo’s new HuginCore system—a centralized computing platform named after a bird from Norse mythology. It works in tandem with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform processors and NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin hardware. Volvo says this combination delivers more than 250 trillion operations per second, the kind of computing power required to run advanced AI features and driver-assistance systems.
Volvo describes the EX60 as “a car that learns with every mile.” Using data from cameras and sensors, the system continuously analyzes its surroundings, identifies potential hazards earlier, and helps reduce risk. The vehicle also supports over-the-air updates and can refine its safety algorithms using anonymized data from other Volvo vehicles around the world.
Every EX60 will come with four years of unlimited mobile data at no extra cost, ensuring owners can take full advantage of the vehicle’s connected and digital features from day one.
