According to Chevrolet, it reaches 62 mph in under 100 feet, with peak longitudinal acceleration reaching an impressive 1.75 G—levels previously seen mostly in track-focused vehicles.
The record was set on a certified drag strip, with the car in standard aerodynamic configuration and equipped with factory Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Chevrolet emphasizes that this performance was not a one-off: the ZR1X completed multiple consecutive runs, consistently posting quarter-mile times under 8.8 seconds.
The secret behind this record-breaking performance is a hybrid powertrain combining a 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 LT7 engine with an electric motor on the front axle. Together, the system delivers 1,250 horsepower, with torque distributed to all four wheels for maximum traction off the line.
General Motors President Mark Reuss highlighted that this stunning performance is a direct result of the Corvette’s switch to a mid-engine layout. He noted that this architecture allowed engineers to unlock the platform’s full potential, bringing the car’s performance to an entirely new level.
