American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the well-known off-road specialist, has finally turned its attention to Ford’s heavy-duty trucks.

Its first project based on the F-Series—the FXL—built on the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty chassis, is ready to take on serious terrain. Sales are set to begin toward the end of the year, and this is the kind of truck that will make you rethink what “big” really means.
Ahead of the Detroit auto show, AEV revealed key details about its latest creation. It turns out the FXL is far more than a collection of bolt-on accessories—it’s a comprehensively reengineered vehicle.
At its core is a 4-inch DualSport suspension lift featuring Bilstein shocks and heavy-duty springs, allowing the truck to run massive 40-inch BFGoodrich HD-Terrain tires on 18-inch wheels. According to AEV’s engineers, the goal wasn’t just aggressive looks, but a genuine improvement in off-road capability while maintaining acceptable comfort, stability, and on-road manners.
That said, the truck’s appearance speaks for itself. The FXL comes equipped with heavy-duty steel bumpers, with the front bumper designed to accommodate a winch rated at over 20,000 pounds. It’s also engineered to retain proper operation of factory driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control. The package is rounded out with HighMark fender flares, signature graphics, auxiliary lighting, and mud flaps.
Production of the FXL will take place at AEV’s facility in Wixom, Michigan, and the truck will be available through authorized Ford dealers. Pricing has not yet been announced, but given the extent of the modifications, it won’t come cheap.
For buyers who prefer to upgrade their trucks gradually, AEV also plans to offer individual components separately. Demand is likely to be strong, as the AEV FXL blends serious off-road hardware with thoughtful upgrades that preserve everyday usability.
