This winter has brought extreme cold to many regions across the globe — and for most of them, it came as a surprise. Unusual weather conditions in several countries have even led to the emergence of unplanned tourist attractions.

One striking example is a Honda Civic that, according to footage from Google Maps and photos taken by bystanders, turned into a frozen monument in the neighborhood of Fishtown in Philadelphia.

Images of the car quickly went viral, transforming it into a popular attraction for both tourists and local residents.

It was later revealed that the owner of the 2016 Honda Civic had parked the vehicle near her home during a snowstorm. When she returned, however, the car was completely encased in ice.

Exactly how it happened remains a mystery, but some local residents reported that a water main had burst somewhere nearby. Cars driving along the street allegedly splashed water onto the parked vehicles, and the water instantly froze in the frigid temperatures.

According to the sedan’s owner, she struggled to get inside through one of the doors, but even the interior had frozen over. She was forced to wait for warmer weather and the arrival of utility crews.

The car has since been freed from its icy shell and towed away for inspection. Moreover, the insurance company has already issued an official response. Most likely, the Civic will be declared a total loss and deemed unfit for further use.
