The BYD Sealion 08 crossover will be offered as a PHEV and BEV with up to 496 horsepower.
BYD has officially announced that its flagship midsize Sealion 08 crossover from the brand’s Ocean lineup will debut on September 2. The model will be available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) versions.
The BYD Sealion 08 features the company’s latest technologies, including a second-generation Blade battery, ultra-fast charging technology and the God’s Eye 5.0 intelligent driver-assistance system.
Inspired by the Ocean S concept, the Sealion 08 follows BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language. The front end features wave-shaped daytime running lights and vertically stacked headlights. The profile is defined by smooth body lines and semi-recessed door handles, while the rear features connected taillights that echo the design of the front lighting elements.
The crossover measures 201.4 inches long, 78.7 inches wide and 70.9 inches tall, with a 119.3-inch wheelbase. Those dimensions put it firmly in the large family crossover segment.
The cabin continues the Ocean series’ wraparound cockpit design, with a floating center touchscreen that is expected to measure 15.6 inches and an integrated digital instrument cluster.
Second-row passengers get a 21.4-inch roof-mounted display, a 25-speaker Devialet audio system, an onboard refrigerator, a dedicated control screen and a small folding table. Official images show a six-seat configuration with second-row zero-gravity seats offering ventilation, heating and massage functions. A five-seat version will also be available.
The Sealion 08 incorporates a range of advanced technologies, including Cell-to-Body (CTB) integration, BYD’s fifth-generation DM hybrid system, rear-wheel steering, the DiSus-A intelligent body-control system, dual-chamber air suspension and a road-preview system.
PHEV: The plug-in hybrid version uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 154 hp. It will be offered with either a single-motor setup producing 268 hp or a dual-motor configuration, with both the front and rear electric motors producing 268 hp each. Electric-only range is rated at 171–186 miles under the WLTC cycle and up to 249 miles under CLTC.
BEV: The all-electric version will be offered in three power configurations. Single-motor versions produce 430 hp or 496 hp. The dual-motor model combines a 288-hp front motor with a 496-hp rear motor.
The BEV will use lithium iron phosphate batteries with capacities of 92.1 kWh or 115.1 kWh. Depending on the configuration, claimed range under the CLTC cycle will be 441 miles, 497 miles or up to 559 miles.
Note: The Sealion 08 is not a U.S.-market vehicle, so there is no U.S.-market model equivalent to substitute for it. The translation therefore retains the Sealion 08 name while using U.S. measurements and terminology.
