VAG is expanding the sales geography of its new compact crossover Volkswagen Tera. While the design of the model for different countries will remain virtually identical, the technical specifications will vary depending on the market.

Volkswagen Tera debuted in Brazil in May of this year, where its production is currently concentrated. However, even before the sales started, the automaker stated that the model will not be limited to one region: the crossover will appear in more than 20 countries on two continents. The main market is South America, and the first export country will be Colombia, where the official presentation of the model recently took place.

By the way, Volkswagen also announced the release of eight new models in Uzbekistan, but it is still unknown whether Tera will be included in this list.

The crossover is built on the modular MQB-A0 platform, which is also used in VW Polo, Nivus, and T-Cross. The length of the Tera is 4151 mm, and the wheelbase is 2566 mm, identical to the South American Polo.

The export version will retain the signature features of the Brazilian model: sculpted sides, aggressive bumpers, a shortened steering wheel, and a multimedia screen integrated into the front panel.

In Colombia, the base versions already include six airbags and an auto-braking system with pedestrian recognition. In Brazil, Tera also offers:

Most likely, similar equipment will be available in other countries as well.

In Brazil, the basic Tera is equipped with a 1.0 MPI (77 HP on gasoline, 84 HP on ethanol) with a manual transmission. In Colombia, however, the starting engine will be a 1.6 MSI (110 HP) gasoline engine with the same "manual".

More powerful versions in both countries will get a turbocharged 1.0 TSI, but with different outputs, so in Colombia - 99 HP + a classic automatic, and in Brazil - 109 HP (gasoline) or 116 HP (ethanol) + automatic. The drive is exclusively front-wheel.

In Colombia, orders for the Volkswagen Tera will open in August. Preliminary prices range from $19,000 to $25,000 equivalent.
