Alfa Romeo has launched a large-scale recall campaign in the United States, covering about 63,000 Giulia and Stelvio vehicles built between 2019 and 2025. The recall was prompted by a malfunction in the rearview system — when reverse gear is engaged, the camera image may fail to appear on the display, significantly increasing the risk of an accident while backing up or parking.

The investigation began in May 2025 following a series of owner complaints. The issue was traced to a defective circuit board and a software glitch in the multimedia units supplied by Marelli. The unstable operation of the rearview camera not only violates federal safety standards but also makes maneuvering in limited-visibility conditions unsafe.

Dealers have already received instructions for free replacement or reprogramming of affected systems with updated software. Owners of the recalled vehicles will receive official notifications by the end of November. According to the manufacturer, 2026 model-year vehicles are equipped with upgraded electronics and are not affected by the recall.

While such malfunctions may not compromise the entire safety system, they can still damage the brand’s reputation, especially in the premium segment. For Alfa Romeo, which is striving to strengthen its presence in the U.S. market, addressing the issue quickly and demonstrating a customer-focused service approach is crucial.
