Jeep Pauses Wagoneer S EV for 2026 as Sales Stall, Plans Updated Comeback in 2027

Jeep halts Wagoneer S production for 2026, aiming to relaunch with major improvements for buyers.

Jeep Pauses Wagoneer S EV for 2026 as Sales Stall, Plans Updated Comeback in 2027

After arriving on the market in May 2024, the Jeep Wagoneer S EV is already stepping aside for a breather. The electric SUV will skip the 2026 model year entirely, with plans to return in 2027 featuring a NACS charging port and a range of updates focused on performance and driving range.

Deliveries of the Wagoneer S began in mid-2024, with about 231 units sold during its first year. Sales picked up in 2025, reaching 10,864 units, but momentum didn’t last. Demand dropped off sharply in the second half of the year, and just 438 vehicles were sold in the fourth quarter as interest in EVs cooled.

So far, 2026 has been even more challenging. Jeep managed to sell only 175 units in the first quarter, despite dealers offering steep discounts—sometimes as much as $25,000 after federal incentives expired. At that pace, annual sales would struggle to reach even 700 units.

With numbers like these, Jeep appears to have decided a pause is the best move. The company plans to sit out the 2026 model year and bring the Wagoneer S back in 2027 with meaningful upgrades.

This kind of reset is becoming more common across the auto industry when a model fails to meet expectations. Dodge, for example, quietly discontinued the Charger Daytona R/T last year due to weak demand, while Volkswagen has taken a similar approach with the ID. Buzz, intending to reintroduce it later.

When the Wagoneer S returns, one of the key changes will be the addition of a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing drivers to plug into Tesla’s Supercharger network without needing an adapter.

A spokesperson for Stellantis подтвердил решение в разговоре с Car & Driver, отметив, что производство полностью электрического Wagoneer S приостанавливается, чтобы «поддержать будущие улучшения в производительности батареи, программном обеспечении и возможностях автомобиля».

Still, pricing remains a major hurdle. The Wagoneer S currently starts at $65,200, and expected upgrades could push that figure even higher—potentially limiting its appeal. For now, buyers can still find or lease remaining 2025 models on dealer lots.

Under the hood—figuratively speaking—the Wagoneer S uses a dual-motor setup, with one motor driving the front axle and another powering the rear. Together, they produce around 500 horsepower.

The Launch Edition, priced at $70,200, ups the output by an additional 100 horsepower. It also adds 20-inch gloss-black wheels, darker exterior accents, an illuminated grille, and a premium 19-speaker McIntosh sound system. A 10.25-inch interactive touchscreen for the front passenger is included as standard equipment.
