Volkswagen Reveals the ID. Unyx 09 Sedan Built on Xpeng Platform
Volkswagen is pushing hard to regain ground in China with a new generation of EVs.
As Volkswagen works to reclaim a stronger position in the Chinese market, the company is accelerating development of new models created alongside local partners to better match the preferences of Chinese buyers.
One of those partnerships is Volkswagen Anhui, the joint venture with JAC Motors responsible for the all-electric ID. Unyx lineup. The newest addition to that family was the ID. Unyx 08 crossover, which debuted in March. Now, it’s being joined by a new sedan—the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09—shown for the first time ahead of the Beijing Auto Show.

The new sedan follows the latest design language already introduced on the ID. Unyx 08 crossover. Up front, it features a smooth closed-off nose typical of EVs, along with a two-level lighting setup and matrix-style daytime running lights.

The front fenders and doors feature black trim accents, while the flush door handles help improve aerodynamics and give the sedan a cleaner profile. At the rear, the taillights mirror the shape of the front running lights. Black wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires complete the sporty look.

During the presentation, the displayed vehicle had fully blacked-out windows, so there were no interior photos available—not even unofficial “spy shots.” Because of that, cabin details remain a mystery for now.
Even though the show car did not appear to have visible lidar sensors, Volkswagen says the production version of the ID. Unyx 09 will feature an advanced Level 2 driver assistance system capable of handling both city traffic and highway driving with confidence.

Like the previously introduced ID. Unyx 08, the sedan is built on the CEA platform, developed jointly with XPeng.
Volkswagen also promises deep integration of Chinese language models and AI-based systems into both the infotainment and driving electronics of the vehicle. At this stage, however, those are the only major technical details officially confirmed.
Its crossover sibling, which shares the same platform, is a fully electric model built on an 800-volt architecture and offers either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Maximum driving range reaches up to 454 miles (730 km), which gives some idea of what buyers might expect from the sedan as well.
The full official debut of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 will take place during the Beijing Auto Show, with customer deliveries expected to begin in the second half of this year.
