More Than 60,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs Recalled Over Potential Drive Power Failure

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a major recall affecting more than 60,000 Jeep vehicles across the United States.

According to federal safety regulators, Chrysler and FCA US LLC are recalling certain 2019 through 2023 Jeep Cherokee models because of a potential failure involving the power transfer unit.

Officials say the defect could cause drivers to suddenly lose drive power while the vehicle is moving. In some cases, the issue may also increase the risk of unintended vehicle rollaway, raising the chances of a crash or injury.

In total, the recall affects 61,711 SUVs. Regulators estimate that roughly 0.5% of the recalled vehicles may actually contain the defect.

At the moment, automaker engineers are still developing a final repair solution. The NHTSA says interim owner notification letters explaining the possible safety risk began mailing on June 25, 2026.

Once the official fix is finalized, owners will receive a second notification with instructions on how and where to complete the repair.
