Electric Kia Syros Ready for Debut as Specs of New Budget-Friendly Crossover Emerge

Kia is preparing to unveil the new Syros EV compact electric crossover. The brand's Indian division has already sent invitations for a special event scheduled to run from July 23 to July 28. The model is expected to make its official debut during that period, with sales beginning in August.

The Kia Syros debuted in India as a compact urban crossover positioned between the Sonet and Seltos in the lineup. The electric version will be the model's first all-electric variant and Kia's most affordable EV in the Indian market. Its main rivals will be the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.

Prototype versions of the Kia Syros EV have already been spotted testing several times. Based on spy photos, the electric model will retain the gasoline-powered version's distinctive boxy profile while gaining several unique design elements. These include a charging port integrated into the front passenger-side fender, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and new aerodynamic wheels. Some test vehicles have also been seen with bright green brake calipers.

The interior is expected to remain largely unchanged. However, the electric crossover may add Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing the traction battery to power external electrical devices, along with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) functionality for transferring energy to another electric vehicle.

The vehicle may also receive advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which were previously removed from the updated Syros lineup with internal combustion engines. A new interior color scheme and updated seat upholstery are also expected.

Like the gasoline-powered model, the Syros EV is built on the K1 platform. According to preliminary information, the crossover will be offered with 42-kWh and 49-kWh battery packs, the same units already used in the Hyundai Inster EV.

The Kia Syros EV is expected to be priced between approximately $17,500 and $23,500 in India, depending on trim level. That places it in the same price range as its primary competitors, the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
