Mercedes-Benz C-Class Transformed Into a Retro Sports Car: Photos
An Argentine shop transformed a Mercedes-Benz C-Class into a replica of the legendary 300 SLR driven by Juan Manuel Fangio.
Based on the Mercedes-Benz C-Class platform, this one-off creation from Córdoba-based shop Clasicos y Especiales features a completely new body built around a steel frame with hand-formed aluminum panels.
The car also wears wire wheels and exhaust pipes that exit behind the front wheel arches. The replica carries the number 658 on its hood and sides, the same number Juan Manuel Fangio raced under.
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR replica is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 producing around 300 horsepower. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The roadster retains the donor car's suspension, braking system and electronic stability-control hardware.
Mercedes-Benz built just seven 300 SLR roadsters in the 1950s. They helped the German automaker rack up a series of victories in some of Europe's most prestigious races.
