2027 Subaru Forester Debuts in the U.S. With Revised Lineup and More Hybrid Options
Subaru has revised the 2027 Forester lineup for America, dropping slower-selling trims while expanding hybrid availability.
As part of the update, Subaru has reshuffled the 2027 Forester lineup, removing less popular versions from the U.S. market while expanding the number of trims available with a hybrid powertrain.
The base Forester carries over at the same starting price of $31,470. However, the most expensive gasoline-powered version is now $2,525 more, bringing its price to $40,970. The range-topping model costs $43,020.
The Forester comes standard with a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine producing up to 180 horsepower and paired with a continuously variable transmission. Buyers can also opt for a hybrid system that combines a 2.5-liter engine with two electric motors. Total output reaches 194 horsepower.
Ground clearance starts at 8.7 inches, while the off-road-oriented Forester Wilderness raises that figure to 9.3 inches.
The Forester Wilderness also gets longer springs and shocks. Its approach and departure angles measure 23.5 and 25.5 degrees, respectively. As part of the update, the trim receives new 17-inch wheels fitted with all-season tires.
The Wilderness version's all-wheel-drive system offers several specialized drive modes for challenging off-road conditions, while reinforced underbody protection helps shield the crossover from rough terrain.
For the first time, the Forester Wilderness is also availablewith the hybrid powertrain. The electrified setup reduces fuel consumption, with the hybrid averaging 31.8-33.1 mpg depending on driving conditions, compared with 26.1 mpg for the gasoline-powered version. The off-road Forester's estimated driving range increases to 481 miles.
Available equipment includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a Harman Kardon audio system, a power liftgate, navigation, an 11.6-inch touchscreen and Subaru's EyeSight driver-assistance system, which recently received an upgrade. Among other improvements, EyeSight can now detect obstacles at greater distances.
The updated 2027 Subaru Forester is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. this fall.
