The 2027 Lexus RX Just Got Nearly $2,700 More Expensive—Here’s What Actually Changed

Lexus has reworked the U.S. RX lineup for the 2027 model year, dropping the entry-level RX 350 and RX 350h Standard trims. As a result, the luxury crossover's official starting price jumps by $2,675, although comparable trims see a much smaller increase.

The Price Increase Isn't a Direct MSRP Hike

Automakers can raise a vehicle's average transaction price in two ways. The most obvious is simply increasing the price of an existing trim.

Lexus took a different approach. The least expensive Standard versions are gone, making the more expensive Premium trim the new entry point.

The front-wheel-drive RX 350 now starts at about $55,450. Previously, the least expensive RX was priced around $52,775, creating the $2,675 difference.

Comparable Trims Are Only About $500 More

A direct comparison between the 2026 and 2027 Premium trims tells a different story. The increase is only about $500, showing why the advertised base price doesn't always tell the whole story.

For shoppers, the impact is still significant: there is no longer a less expensive RX to choose from. The change, however, is primarily the result of a revised trim structure rather than a major across-the-board price increase.

This strategy is common in the luxury segment. Automakers can eliminate lower-margin versions while moving more buyers into better-equipped trims from the start.

Another less obvious change involves connected services. Owners previously received roughly three years of complimentary access to Drive Connect.

For 2027, that trial period drops to just three months. Once the trial expires, some connected features will require a paid subscription.

The shift reflects a broader trend across the auto industry. Automakers are looking for ways to generate revenue from vehicles long after the initial sale through digital services and subscription-based features.

Multiple Powertrains Remain Available

The Lexus RX continues to offer a conventional gas engine, traditional hybrid powertrains and electrified performance-oriented models. That broad range of powertrains remains one of the reasons the RX has maintained a strong position in the luxury crossover market.

The RX 350h focuses on efficiency, while the more powerful hybrid models prioritize performance. For many shoppers, the RX provides an alternative to the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5 and Audi Q7, with a stronger emphasis on hybrid technology.

There are no major mechanical changes for 2027. The biggest story is the revised pricing and trim structure.

For F Sport models, Lexus offers red brake calipers as a sporty visual option. Small details like these can help luxury brands increase revenue through personalization and appearance upgrades.

The vehicle itself may remain largely unchanged mechanically, yet buyers are often willing to pay more for design elements that make their vehicle stand out. German luxury brands have used a similar strategy for years.
