Ford Recalls 41,748 Vehicles After Headlights Can Suddenly Lose Critical Functions

Ford is recalling 41,748 vehicles over a headlight defect that can cause several exterior lights to stop working, potentially reducing visibility for drivers and making the vehicles harder for others to see.

The recall covers 2025-2027 Ford Expedition SUVs and 2026 F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the affected headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip. The defect can result in the loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams.

"The headlight assemblies may contain a contaminated LED chip, which can result in a loss of daytime running lights, parking lights, high beams or low beams," the NHTSA said in its notice.

A loss of exterior lighting can reduce the driver's ability to see the road and may also make the vehicle less visible to surrounding traffic, increasing the risk of a crash.

"A loss of exterior lighting can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash," the notice states.

Drivers may receive a warning from the vehicle if the problem affects the low- or high-beam headlights.

"A dashboard indicator light will illuminate for customers experiencing inoperative low beam and/or high beam headlamps," the safety report reads.

The recall repair will be handled by Ford dealers at no cost to owners. Dealers will inspect the headlight assemblies and replace them if necessary.

Ford expects to mail owner notification letters on October 26. Owners with questions can contact Ford at 866-436-7332 using recall number 26C43.

Owners can also contact the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or check their vehicle identification number through the agency's recall lookup system.
