Crossovers and SUVs have dominated the global market for years. Buyers appreciate the way they blend sedan-like comfort with the confidence to handle rougher roads when needed.

With so many options available — especially in the premium segment, where quality is high across the board — choosing the right model isn’t easy. To help narrow the field, the experts at Autocar compiled their ranking of the top luxury SUVs for 2026.

Claiming the top spot is the Range Rover Sport. Judges praised it for what they described as “exceptional sophistication.”

Automotive editor Matt Saunders highlighted the SUV’s “impressive mechanical refinement and ride comfort, richly appointed and inviting cabin, uncompromising versatility, and its ability to genuinely engage the driver.”

What makes the Range Rover Sport stand out is its balance. Even though it’s a substantial vehicle, it feels composed and responsive on the road, living up to the “Sport” badge. Buyers can also choose from a broad lineup of powerful engines, ranging from refined inline-sixes to high-output performance variants.

Naturally, excellence at this level comes at a price. In many global markets, a new Range Rover Sport for the 2025–2026 model years starts at well over $80,000, with higher trims and options pushing the figure significantly further.

Because the ranking focuses strictly on the premium class, every finalist carries a hefty sticker. The list includes the exotic Ferrari Purosangue, the ultra-luxurious Bentley Bentayga, and the performance-focused Porsche Cayenne — all of which command six-figure prices in the U.S. market.
