Smartly built for full-time living, this family tiny home feels warm, practical, and full of reclaimed wood character.
The tiny house movement has taken off in New Zealand, especially as housing prices keep climbing. From retirees to young professionals, couples, and even families with children, more people across the country are turning to compact living as a way to ease financial pressure, shrink their environmental footprint, and simplify everyday life.
While a tiny home on wheels isn’t always the obvious pick for long-term family living, modern designs increasingly come with multiple bedrooms and all the comforts of a full-size house. The Old Man Pine model by Tiny Timber Homes is a strong example of that approach.
Built for families looking to embrace a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle, this mobile home includes three bedrooms, a cozy lounge, a fully equipped kitchen, a dedicated dining space, and smart storage throughout. The layout is carefully thought out, using every inch to deliver both comfort and functionality for full-time living.
Before diving deeper into its features, it’s worth noting that Tiny Timber Homes is a family-run company based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, building custom tiny homes on wheels since 2014. Founded by Phil Edwards, a craftsman with over 12 years of experience in small-space design, the company is known for its focus on sustainable construction, handcrafted detail, and warm timber-filled interiors.
They even operate their own mill and use a lot of reclaimed timber in their builds, resulting in highly personalized homes that reflect both design creativity and individual client needs.
Completed about four years ago, the Old Man Pine stands as one of the largest models in their lineup. It combines portability with everyday livability, practical design, and solid energy efficiency. The home sits on a durable double-axle trailer and measures 10.3 meters (33 feet) long and 3 meters (10 feet) wide.
Outside, wood and metal cladding come together for a clean but eye-catching look. The mix of natural timber and sleek metal panels gives it a modern rustic feel, while large windows and double-glazed folding glass doors bring plenty of natural light inside.
The interior continues that blend of modern and rustic style. Every detail—from furniture to built-in storage—was chosen with purpose, balancing function and aesthetics. Staying true to Tiny Timber Homes’ signature approach, the space is filled with natural wood, handcrafted finishes, and a cozy, nature-inspired atmosphere.
Inside, the living room feels open enough for family time and gatherings. A large sofa and ottoman anchor the space, while a corner fireplace adds warmth. Thanks to the wider footprint, the room feels airy and open, and the oversized entry can turn it into an indoor-outdoor lounge, especially when paired with an optional front deck.
The kitchen nearby is both stylish and practical, offering generous prep space and well-planned storage despite the absence of upper cabinets. Acacia countertops include a heat-resistant section and a large sink with a drying area. Cooking is handled with full-size appliances, including a full LPG oven with a four-burner cooktop, vent hood, and refrigerator.
Instead of under-stair storage, the designers installed a floor-to-ceiling cabinetry wall opposite the kitchen. Finished in crisp white with vertical detailing, it includes a dual-bin system, pull-out pantry, open shelving for a microwave or coffee setup, and multiple storage compartments that help keep the space uncluttered.
All of this built-in storage, along with an extendable dining table and generous counter space, makes the kitchen feel just like a traditional home setup. The open layout also allows the kitchen and living area to flow together naturally, making it easy for families to cook, eat, and spend time together.
What really defines the Old Man Pine as a family home is its three-bedroom layout. With a downstairs children’s room, a spacious lofted master bedroom, and a second loft, the house can comfortably sleep five to six people. The ground-floor bedroom offers privacy and easy access, fitting a twin bed with room left for shelves, a small desk, and storage.
The master bedroom is accessed by stairs and feels surprisingly spacious for a tiny home. It fits a king-size mattress and clothing storage, while windows on both sides keep it bright and well-ventilated. The second loft is smaller but flexible, working as a kid’s room, office, or creative space.
Downstairs, the bathroom is designed with families in mind, balancing practicality and style. It includes a glass-enclosed shower, large vanity, storage under the counter for a washer/dryer unit, shelving for toiletries and towels, and a toilet.
Built with durable materials and a thoughtful layout, the Old Man Pine tiny house on wheels offers a real alternative to traditional housing—especially for those chasing a simpler lifestyle, financial flexibility, and the freedom to live wherever they choose.
