Google has already rolled out Gemini support to many Android Auto users, but the company is preparing a much bigger AI upgrade for drivers. The next major step will bring Gemini Intelligence directly into Android Auto, expanding the assistant’s abilities far beyond simple voice commands.

The idea behind Gemini Intelligence is fairly straightforward. Since the system can understand what’s happening on your smartphone screen, it can automatically suggest actions and complete tasks without requiring users to constantly pick up their phones.

For drivers, that could mean sending addresses, replying to messages, managing calendar details, or even placing food orders while staying focused on the road.

Because driver distraction is such a major concern inside vehicles, Gemini Intelligence actually feels like a natural fit for Android Auto. The challenge, however, is making sure the feature works reliably. Gemini itself hasn’t exactly impressed every Android Auto user so far, with many owners reporting bugs and inconsistent performance since launch.

One of the biggest additions coming with Gemini Intelligence is smarter message handling. For example, if someone texts asking for an address, the system can automatically pull the location from Google Maps and display a confirmation pop-up directly on the infotainment screen. Drivers can then send the information without touching their phones.

The same functionality extends to emails and calendar events. Gemini Intelligence can search for relevant details, suggest responses, and prepare replies automatically based on context.

Another major feature arriving through the AI integration is DoorDash support. With Gemini enabled, users will reportedly be able to place food orders entirely through natural voice interaction. Instead of memorizing rigid commands, drivers can simply talk normally while Gemini handles the process.

Once the order is prepared, Android Auto displays a summary showing selected items and pricing directly on the screen.

Google says Gemini Intelligence will launch for Android Auto later this year, though the company hasn’t shared an exact release date. As usual with Android Auto updates, rollout timing could vary significantly. Some features take months before reaching all compatible devices.

At the same time, Android Auto is preparing several other major upgrades, including long-awaited widget support. Evidence of widgets has already appeared in beta versions of the software.

According to reports, Android Auto will eventually support many phone widgets directly inside the vehicle interface. Users may access them with a simple swipe gesture, while the system switches to a new three-panel layout combining widgets, navigation, and other information on one screen.

Like Gemini Intelligence, the widget update is expected sometime later this year, although Google still hasn’t provided a firm launch schedule. Beta users will prbably get access first before the wider public rollout begins.

For Android Auto fans, the update could become one of the platfrm’s biggest changes in years — assuming everything actually works smothly once it arrives.
