Porsche has built a one-of-a-kind 911 Turbo S celebrating Australia with color-shifting paint and details inspired by the country.
Porsche has recently been unveiling a steady stream of unique cars and limited-production models through its Sonderwunsch personalization program. Previous projects have included cars inspired by Toy Story, the special Earls Court 51 Edition, and a variety of other one-off builds. This time, Porsche turned its attention to Australia.
The one-off car is called the Porsche 911 Turbo S Land Down Under. It was created to mark 75 years of Porsche's official presence in Australia and features numerous details inspired by the country's landscapes, wildlife and culture. The result is a sports car that stands out even among Porsche's highly customized Sonderwunsch creations.
The project is based on the latest 992.2-generation Porsche 911 Turbo S. The car was created through a joint effort by Porsche Cars Australia and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. From a distance, it can look like an ordinary silver sports car, but a closer look reveals just how much work went into the project.
The car's most distinctive feature is its Chromaflair gradient paint, which combines two colors developed specifically for this Porsche. The lower portion of the body is finished in Terra Australis Red, while the upper section is painted Southern Cross Blue.
Depending on the lighting and viewing angle, the surface shifts between different shades, creating an effect inspired by Australia's deserts, sky and natural landscapes. Applying the seven layers of paint by hand required more than 300 hours of work.
The exterior also features miniature illustrations created by Sydney-based artist Werner Bronkhorst. Small images inspired by Australian landscapes, animals and people can be found in different areas of the car. Several of these details were even added to the wheels.
A subtle number 75 appears on the roof in a font created by Bronkhorst. Beneath the rear spoiler, Porsche has hidden the words “See ya later mate.” The message becomes visible when the driver selects Sport Plus mode or when the active rear spoiler automatically rises at speeds above 50 mph.
The Australian theme continues inside the cabin. Porsche used Dark Night Blue leather, Coolibah Brown accents and Australian silky oak trim for the interior. A total of 14,417 perforation points in the seats create a custom pattern, while the dashboard and side elements feature topographic images inspired by the Blue Mountains in New South Wales.
The headliner is decorated with an embroidered map of the Southern Hemisphere's constellations. It recreates the night sky above Uluru in Australia's Northern Territory in 1951, the year the first Porsche cars arrived in the country. Miniature images of kangaroos, koalas, wedge-tailed eagles and other Australian symbols are also hidden throughout the interior.
From a mechanical standpoint, the Land Down Under is based on the production Porsche 911 Turbo S. Its T-Hybrid powertrain combines a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with a hybrid system. It produces 710 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
The coupe can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and from 0 to 124 mph in 8.4 seconds. Its top speed is 200 mph.
Like most vehicles created through the Sonderwunsch program, the Porsche 911 Turbo S Land Down Under will remain a one-off and will not be offered for general sale. After its debut, the car will go on a road show across Australia, where it will be displayed at several selected locations around the country.
