Saudi automaker Ceer has unveiled two futuristic electric models that look more like movie props than production cars.
Saudi Arabia’s Ceer has unveiled two new production models for its domestic market: the Exobot sedan and crossover. Both vehicles are powered by electric motors and feature an unconventional, futuristic design.
Ceer was founded in 2022 by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Taiwan-based Foxconn, the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer. In recent years, the company has worked with several partners, including BMW. Ceer has now revealed its first production EVs, the Exobot sedan and crossover.
The two models share the same platform and stand out with a futuristic appearance that looks more at home in a science-fiction movie than on a conventional road. Both feature large dimensions, sharply sculpted front ends, high rear sections, enormous windshields and slim lighting elements. The sedan measures about 207 inches long, while the crossover stretches roughly 198 inches.
According to Ceer, the designs also incorporate elements inspired by Saudi Arabian culture. For example, the sculpted bodywork is said to draw inspiration from the ancient architecture of Hegra.
Perhaps the most striking feature, however, is the pair of oversized doors. They are nearly 10 feet long and swing upward in an arc of about 24 inches. The doors can be operated remotely using the key fob or through touch-sensitive controls.
The interiors are just as futuristic. A yoke-style steering wheel is paired with physical buttons, while a panoramic display stretches across the base of the windshield. A vertically oriented touchscreen sits on the center console. Directly below it is a tall center tunnel packed with physical controls, an almost old-school touch in a vehicle otherwise designed to look like something from the future.
Both the crossover and sedan use three electric motors producing a combined output of up to 850 horsepower. That is enough to propel the vehicles from 0 to 62 mph in 2.9 and 2.6 seconds, respectively. Ceer sources the front electric motor from Hyundai and the rear motor from Rimac.
Both models use a 112-kWh battery pack, providing a claimed driving range of roughly 348 to 416 miles. Ceer also says the range-topping Exobot produces as much as 1,111 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. With that output, the vehicle can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.1 seconds.
Ceer plans to launch seven electric vehicles by the beginning of the next decade. The lineup will include smaller models with different powertrains, including conventional internal-combustion engines.
