A new Japanese camper packs a living room, kitchen, shower and two sleeping areas into a compact package.
A new Japanese-built camper called the Discovery1 is set to make its public debut at the Tohoku Camper Show 2026 on October 10. The compact motorhome is built on a light-duty truck chassis and features a full living area with a lounge, kitchen and separate shower room. Its starting price has already been announced.
The chassis was designed in part for use with camper conversions, allowing manufacturers to add a living module while keeping the overall vehicle relatively compact. That approach gives travelers a surprisingly complete interior without requiring a full-size motorhome.
The Discovery1 measures about 16.4 feet long, 6.6 feet wide and 9.2 feet tall. The interior has been completely redesigned with wood trim, finished flooring and integrated lighting.
The main challenge was making the most of the limited interior space, and the first images show how the layout puts nearly every inch to use.
At the center of the living area is a lounge with a folding table and an L-shaped sofa. Once the table is folded away, the sofa converts into a double bed. A second sleeping area is located toward the front and can also be folded out when needed.
The compact kitchen provides space for preparing meals, while a separate shower room sits nearby with a sink and shower fixture.
Storage compartments are positioned throughout the cabin, helping keep the interior usable during longer trips.
Buyers can also add a household-style air conditioner, microwave and refrigerator. A 400-Ah battery supplies electricity for the onboard equipment, while a 400-watt solar panel mounted on the roof can recharge the system.
The new camper will start at about $60,100 (¥9.5 million) in its base configuration. The vehicle will make its full public debut at the Tohoku Camper Show 2026 on October 10.
