Honda could be preparing a much larger three-row SUV, potentially stretching nearly as long as a full-size American SUV.
In the auto industry, bigger vehicles often attract more buyers, especially when it comes to crossovers and SUVs. The trend toward oversized SUVs has continued to grow, and reports suggest Honda may be considering its own entry into the segment.
The automaker is reportedly looking at a three-row SUV positioned just above the current Pilot, with production potentially starting in the first quarter of 2032.
The rumored SUV could be about 8 inches longer than the standard version, bringing its overall length to roughly 208 inches. That would make it longer than several popular three-row crossovers, including the Toyota Grand Highlander, Hyundai Palisade and Ford Explorer.
For Honda's biggest market, North America, that extra size could be a major selling point. The larger SUV is also expected to share a significant number of components with an upcoming flagship luxury SUV from Honda's premium division.
Both vehicles are reportedly expected to use a hybrid powertrain.
It remains unclear whether the larger SUV will actually make it into production. The current Pilot, however, continues to post strong sales in the U.S.
Through August, dealers had sold 83,486 units, although that was 2.3% fewer than during the same period a year earlier. By comparison, Honda sold 302,056 CR-Vs and 96,164 HR-Vs over the same seven-month period.
That puts the Pilot in third place among Honda's crossover and SUV lineup by sales.
The 2026 Pilot starts at $42,395, while the range-topping Black Edition reaches $55,195.
