Last week it was announced that Ram is bringing back the Hemi V8 engine for the Ram 1500 pickup, and next year the model with this engine will be back on the market. However, the company emphasizes that it is not giving up on electric vehicles — specifically, the Ram 1500 REV introduced in 2023 will still go into series production, but later.

Why are Ram's electric vehicles delayed?

The main reason — low demand for electric vehicles. However, Ram believes that this direction has prospects, especially due to tightening environmental standards, primarily in Europe.

Initially, the Ram 1500 REV was supposed to go on sale in 2023, but its release has been postponed. In November of the same year, the company showcased the Ramcharger — a hybrid pickup with a 3.6-liter V6 and an electric motor, aimed at solving the range issue. But its market introduction is also delayed.

Timeline for Ram electric vehicles:

CEO Tim Kuniskis confirmed that the development of electric vehicles continues, but for now, the main focus is on traditional internal combustion engines due to their demand. That's why the company decided to bring the Hemi V8 back to market.

In the opinion of the editorial team, sooner or later the company will give in, as we are seeing the electric vehicle market rapidly filling up. Ram seems to balance between classic engines and electric transformation. As long as there's demand for classic pickups, the company bets on proven solutions, but in the long term, it still plans to transition to electric vehicles.
