BMW has quietly redesigned its signature badge, and the recently unveiled BMW iX3 from the Neue Klasse lineup is the first to showcase the change.

The new electric crossover was revealed only a short time ago, and sharp-eyed observers quickly noticed the updated logo on the model.

At first glance, the Bavarian brand’s emblem on the iX3 looks familiar: the classic white-and-blue quarters inside a circle. But on closer inspection, BMW has refined the design.

The thin silver dividing lines that once separated the black, blue, and white segments are now gone. The colors blend seamlessly, creating a cleaner, more modern look.

It remains unclear whether BMW will limit the new badge to Neue Klasse EVs or roll it out across all future BMW models.

Historical Note:

BMW’s last major logo update took place in March 2020, marking the first redesign in over 20 years. The company unveiled a flatter, minimalist emblem, eliminating the black outer ring that had been a hallmark since 1917. The transparent background was designed to integrate more naturally with digital media and modern branding trends, reflecting BMW’s shift toward electrification and connectivity. The classic white-and-blue quarters, inspired by the Bavarian flag, remained untouched to preserve the brand’s heritage.

This change first appeared in marketing materials and concept vehicles rather than production models. It wasn’t until later that certain limited-run vehicles and digital platforms adopted the updated badge. The move symbolized BMW’s commitment to a cleaner, more future-oriented aesthetic while honoring its long-standing tradition. Before that, the previous significant tweak had been in 1997, when BMW subtly refined the shading and contours of the logo. The 2020 update underscored the brand’s balance between innovation and its rich automotive legacy.
