From electric motorcycles and bicycles to futuristic mobility aids and experimental prototypes — Yamaha is reimagining personal transportation.
Yamaha Motor surprised visitors at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, held from September 8 to 31, with an ambitious showcase themed “Feel and Begin to Move.” The company presented 16 unique mobility concepts, including six world premieres — ranging from electric motorcycles and bicycles to futuristic wheelchairs and experimental prototypes.
The biggest sensation was the MOTOROiD: λ (Lambda) — an AI-driven, self-learning motorcycle capable of balancing on its own and even standing upright without human assistance. This next-generation concept continues Yamaha’s MOTOROiD project, which explores the relationship between humans and machines on a new, emotional level. Lambda uses virtual learning and Sim2Real technology, enabling it to adapt to real-world conditions and demonstrate remarkable stability.
Another highlight was the TRICERA proto, a three-wheeled electric vehicle with an open cockpit and three-wheel steering, offering an entirely new driving experience. Its “alive AD” sound system enhances emotional feedback while driving, and its sleek design emphasizes harmony between rider and machine.
Yamaha also introduced the PROTO BEV, a large electric motorcycle powered by a high-capacity battery that combines sportbike performance with everyday ease of use. It features innovative HMI (Human-Machine Interface) functions designed to help riders stay focused on the road.
A standout concept was the H2 Buddy Porter, a hydrogen-powered cargo scooter developed in collaboration with Toyota. Equipped with compact hydrogen tanks, it already meets stringent environmental standards and showcases Yamaha’s push toward carbon-neutral mobility.
The display also included new Y-00B: Base and Y-00B: Bricolage electric bicycles, both featuring minimalist design and customizable components. Alongside them, Yamaha showcased hybrid scooters, electric wheelchairs, and retro-inspired models.
Adding a creative touch, Yamaha collaborated with its music division for live performances featuring Vocaloid Hatsune Miku and demonstrations of the company’s latest acoustic innovations. On a separate stage, visitors could see the compact DIAPASON electric car, a hydrogen-powered golf cart, and several classic Yamaha models celebrating the brand’s rich history.
