For 2026, the Volkswagen e-Transporter takes a major step forward.
For the 2026 model year, the Volkswagen e-Transporter moves to the next level as it adapts to the growing demands of modern commercial fleets.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has focused on practical upgrades that directly affect day-to-day business operations. The changes target the key areas fleet customers care about most: driving range, faster charging, and improved traction across a wide range of operating conditions. At the same time, Volkswagen continues to emphasize a smooth and straightforward transition to electric power.
More range and shorter charging times add up to greater versatility. The usable battery capacity of both the e-Transporter and e-Caravelle increases from 64 to 70 kWh. This boosts maximum driving range to up to about 236 miles, roughly a 13 percent improvement over the previous version. Charging times have also been reduced. Using a 125 kW DC fast charger, the high-voltage battery can now be replenished from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes—about 10 minutes quicker than before. Looked at another way, a brief 10-minute charging stop can deliver roughly 62 miles of additional range.
Starting in early 2026, the electric Transporter will also be available with Volkswagen’s intelligent 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. This setup combines the familiar rear electric motor with an additional motor on the front axle. Because the two drive units are not mechanically linked, torque can be distributed quickly and precisely between the front and rear wheels as needed. The result is improved traction on construction sites, wet pavement, or unpaved roads.
The 4Motion system works closely with the electronic stability control and traction control systems to maximize grip. Torque and braking forces are applied selectively to reduce oversteer or understeer, helping the electric Transporter stay confidently in its lane even in wet conditions, on changing road surfaces, or through corners. The all-wheel-drive system will be offered in three output levels: 134, 214, and 281 horsepower.
