Toyota Hilux Pickup Turned Into a Cozy Micro Apartment on Wheels for Off-Road Travel
The rugged Toyota Hilux pickup has been transformed into a compact camper, turning the durable off-road truck into a tiny mobile home.
Pickup trucks like the Toyota Hilux have long been valued as true workhorses. They’re known for being tough, simple to maintain, and highly capable off-road thanks to their body-on-frame construction and a proper four-wheel-drive system.
Recently, the model caught the attention of a camper manufacturer from Kreuzwertheim, Germany, called Tischer.

The German company developed a special camper module for the previous generation Hilux that quickly transforms the utilitarian pickup into a small yet comfortable living space—perfect for travelers planning to explore remote trails and off-road routes.

The camper unit is mounted directly in the truck’s cargo bed. Its unusual shape extends over the pickup’s cab, creating additional interior space and providing an extra sleeping area for travelers. The module measures about 14 feet in total length and stands roughly 8.5 feet tall.

Inside, the limited space is carefully organized. There’s a full bathroom with a fold-down sink, a large storage cabinet with a built-in refrigerator, and a compact kitchen unit featuring a two-burner stove and a stainless-steel sink. Several overhead cabinets provide storage for dishes and cooking essentials.

In the center of the cabin there’s a small lounge area that can easily be converted into a bed for a second traveler when needed.

According to the developer, the camper module isn’t limited to the Hilux. It can also be installed on other popular midsize pickups, including the Volkswagen Amarok and the Ford Ranger.
Pricing hasn’t been officially announced yet, but the company says details will be revealed soon. For now, orders for the camper module designed for the previous-generation Hilux will only be available in Europe.
