Porsche Confirms New 911 Model Will Rev Up to 9,000 RPM
Upcoming open-top 911 GT3 variant expected to combine high-revving engine with a manual transmission
Porsche has confirmed that the engine in its upcoming 911 model will rev all the way to 9,000 rpm. The official debut is set for April 14, and the car is widely expected to be an open-top version of the Porsche 911 GT3, likely called the 911 GT3 Sport Cabriolet.
The new variant is expected to use the same naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine found in the limited-run Porsche 911 S/T. That engine produces 518 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque and will reportedly be paired with a six-speed manual transmission—something purists will appreciate.

The Sport Cabriolet version is also expected to feature a retractable soft top along with an upgraded aerodynamic package. This includes air vents behind the front wheel arches and a sportier rear bumper with centrally mounted dual exhaust outlets.
Teaser images reveal wider front fenders and center-lock wheels, reinforcing the car’s track-focused character despite its open-top design.
