Up to 473 Miles of Range: Mercedes Unveils Electric C-Class

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off its new all-electric C-Class sedan, signaling a major step in the brand’s evolving lineup. The model delivers an estimated range of up to 473 miles (WLTP), along with rapid charging and a completely reworked design that sets it apart from both the gas-powered version and earlier EQ models.

In a notable shift, Mercedes is merging its electric and internal combustion vehicles under a unified naming strategy. As a result, the new model is simply called the C-Class Electric, dropping the EQ branding altogether. Visually, it takes a different direction from the traditional C-Class, featuring a grille inspired by classic Mercedes models like the W111 and W108, now updated with modern lighting made up of 1,050 illuminated pixels.

Lighting plays a big role in the design. Signature star motifs appear in both the headlights and taillights, while the panoramic roof integrates 162 softly lit stars. Overall, the sedan resembles an electric version of the GLC, avoiding the rounded, “egg-like” look seen on models like the EQE and EQS.

Inside, the cabin closely mirrors that of the electric GLC. At the high end, buyers get a massive 39.1-inch display stretching across nearly the entire dashboard. Other trims feature a three-screen setup under a single glass surface. The Superscreen configuration combines a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster with two 14-inch touchscreens. In base models, the front passenger display is replaced with a decorative digital panel.

Built on a dedicated EV platform, the new C-Class offers more interior space. The wheelbase grows by about 3.8 inches to 116.6 inches, improving rear legroom, while the panoramic roof enhances headroom.

Storage is also improved, with a small front trunk offering 3.6 cubic feet of space and a rear trunk providing 16.6 cubic feet. The car can tow up to roughly 3,970 pounds.

At launch, the C400 4Matic variant will be available, featuring dual electric motors that produce 482 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. It uses a 94.5 kWh battery pack and delivers up to 473 miles of range on a full charge under the WLTP cycle.

Fast-charging capability is a highlight: just 10 minutes at a high-speed charger (up to 330 kW) can add approximately 202 miles of driving range. A single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version with an estimated range of around 497 miles is expected to arrive later.

Performance is strong for a luxury sedan. The electric C-Class can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in about 4.1 seconds, with top speed limited to 130 mph. Optional rear-wheel steering reduces the turning circle to about 36.7 feet, improving maneuverability and high-speed stability.

Mercedes says ride comfort rivals that of the S-Class. Available adaptive air suspension can use data from Google Maps and cloud-based services to anticipate road conditions and adjust accordingly. The car also features acoustic glass and enhanced sound insulation for a quieter cabin.

For now, the model is offered exclusively as a sedan. U.S. sales are expected to begin in the first half of 2027, with additional versions rolling out later depending on the market.
