The car is announced as a prototype for a future production model

During the 24-hour race at Japan's Fuji Speedway, Subaru released a teaser for a new WRX model, once again rekindling hope for the return of the WRX STi. Subaru's Chief Engineer Tetsuo Fujinuki stated that the new Performance model prototype will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025.
