Broad Arrow Auctions will offer the 1992 Benetton B192 Formula 1 car at public auction in late January.

Michael Schumacher’s First Winning Formula 1 Car With a Ford Engine Is Heading to Auction

The Benetton B192 chassis number 05 holds a special place in Formula 1 history. It was in this very car that Michael Schumacher claimed the first victory of his F1 career, winning the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps in late August 1992 under notoriously wet conditions. At the time, the car was powered by a naturally aspirated Ford V8 engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox.

After its racing days, the Benetton B192 was preserved at the team’s headquarters before later becoming part of the Renault Classic collection. In 2015, it was acquired by LRS Formula, which carried out a full restoration. Following that work, the car passed into the hands of a private collector.

The fully operational Benetton B192 is currently estimated at €8.5 million, which translates to approximately $9.95 million at an exchange rate of $1.17 per euro.

For comparison, the most expensive Michael Schumacher Formula 1 car ever sold at auction remains the Ferrari F2001—the car with which he secured the 2001 World Championship. That machine changed hands in May 2025 for €15.98 million, or roughly $18.7 million, underscoring the enduring value of Schumacher’s most historically significant race cars.
