Buick officially unveiled its new plug-in hybrid crossover, the Electra E7, on April 22 ahead of the Beijing Auto Show. The model is offered in three trims, priced between roughly $22,000 and $27,500. Its public debut will take place at the exhibition.

Buick Electra E7: “Spread Wings” Design Philosophy

The SUV brings the brand’s “spread wings” design language from its concept phase into production form. Split headlight units create a front-end look often described as a “shark nose.” Buyers can choose from four exterior color options.

The vehicle measures about 15.9 feet in length, 6.3 feet in width, and 5.5 feet in height, with a wheelbase of roughly 112 inches. A roof-mounted LiDAR sensor supports an advanced driver-assistance system built on reinforcement learning, enabling assisted driving across a wide range of scenarios.

Inside, the cabin features an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display. Smartphone integration is fully supported.

The five-seat layout includes four “floating-style” seats, all equipped with standard three-level heating and ventilation. Front seats offer multi-zone massage and full electric adjustment, while the rear seatbacks recline electrically between 115 and 125 degrees, wrapped in 270-degree leather trim.

The front passenger seat uses an “Ames-style” zero-gravity design, with multi-angle electric adjustment for the cushion, backrest, and leg support, allowing a dual 120-degree comfort posture for both torso and legs.

Additional features include a multifunction rear table, a certified eye-protection ambient ceiling light, and a heated/cooled storage box using silver-ion technology with a temperature range of 36°F to 122°F. A 15.6-inch rear entertainment screen and a 20-speaker surround audio system round out the cabin experience. Cargo space ranges from about 23 to 63 cubic feet.

Powertrain: Balancing Performance and Efficiency

The Electra E7 offers two hybrid configurations:

A 32.6 kWh battery pack provides up to 146 miles of pure electric driving range and a total driving range of about 1,013 miles.

The SUV also uses a predictive continuous damping control system that scans road conditions 500 times per second, actively reducing vibrations and smoothing out imperfections.

Buick currently sells over 30,000 vehicles annually in China. In March 2026, brand sales reached 34,969 units, marking a 5% increase year over year.

For buyers and investors, the E7 signals a few clear trends: extended range reduces reliance on charging infrastructure, premium comfort features help it stand out in the midsize segment, and steady sales growth reinforces brand confidence. The real test, however, will be how it competes against other hybrid SUVs and whether its advanced features perform as promised in everyday use.
