Ford has unveiled the new Mondeo Sport Edition hybrid fastback, combining strong performance with impressive efficiency.
Ford officially introduced the new Mondeo Sport Edition at the 2026 Chongqing Auto Show. The sleek crossover-fastback arrives with a starting price of about $29,200 and is aimed at buyers who want better performance without making the leap to a fully electric vehicle.
The lineup consists of two trim levels, both powered by Ford’s 2.0T EcoBoost E hybrid system. According to the automaker, the new model is designed for customers seeking a balance between efficiency and traditional gasoline-powered convenience.
Under the hood, the Mondeo Sport Edition pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 308 horsepower. Fuel economy is rated at 39.3 mpg in the combined WLTC cycle and an impressive 50.7 mpg on the highway. Ford says the hybrid can travel up to 568 miles on a full tank and battery charge.
The new Mondeo measures 193.7 inches long and rides on a 115.9-inch wheelbase, giving it dimensions comparable to midsize sedans while maintaining the elevated stance and styling of a fastback crossover.
Ford has also upgraded the technology package. The Mondeo Sport Edition features the latest Sync Max infotainment system powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 processor, which delivers faster startup times and supports the fourth-generation VA4.0 voice assistant. Unlike traditional systems that rely on preset commands, the new setup allows for more natural conversational interactions.
Another highlight is a 540-degree camera system, which combines surround-view cameras with an underbody visualization function to provide drivers with an expanded view around the vehicle.
Across global markets, including China, Ford continues to emphasize conventional hybrid technology. The company believes the approach offers greater efficiency while reducing complexity and eliminating the need for regular charging, making hybrids an appealing alternative for buyers not yet ready to switch to EVs.
